Cop Dad Is Killed on Duty, but His Fellow Officers Help Escort his Daughter to Prom
Going to the prom is a huge milestone for any daughter, but for Aleena Kondak of Tarpon Springs, Florida it was bittersweet. Her cherished father, Police Officer Charlie Kondak who was beloved by her family and community wouldn’t be physically present to take pictures and send her off to prom. Tragically, the 45-year-old father of six and devoted husband was killed while on duty.
It had been two years since Aleena’s father passed, and while the Kondak family did the best they could to move on, the heartache was still just as fresh. Yet Aleena felt the presence of her dad as she got her hair and make-up done for prom, knowing that he would have been so proud.
Officer Kondak’s friends on the local police force were aware that his eldest daughter was preparing to experience one of the biggest moments of her life. So, in a touching gesture of support, they gave her a stellar send-off.
When Aleena and her date arrived at the prom and stepped off the bus, they were shocked to see dozens of cop cars had lined up in front of them. Her late dad’s fellow officers all applauded, shared their pride, handed her a bouquet of flowers and posed for photos. According to Major Jeff Young, the moment was “sad because we had to be here, honored because we can be here.”
