Dad Pays Off Students’ Lunch Debt After Learning Kids Share Hot Lunches with Those Who Can’t Afford Them
Children learn by example and for one generous Wisconsin dad, he wanted to show his daughter how one random act of kindness can have a ripple effect and positively impact society as a whole.
It all began when dad Shawn Bumgardner learned that several of the students at his daughter’s middle school had a negative lunch balance and weren’t able to receive hot lunches like the rest of their classmates. This greatly saddened him.
At the same time, he also learned of the generosity of one student in particular from Cudahy Middle School in Wisconsin who was selflessly sharing her lunch with a fellow student who may have otherwise gone hungry. “There’s no child that should go to school and be hungry,” Bumgardner reiterated. Children need well-balanced, healthy lunches to fuel their minds and bodies and learn in school.
While it’s important to point out that Cudahy Middle School reportedly gives children who can’t afford lunch peanut butter sandwiches, Bumgardner still wanted to do more to help the struggling students. So, he paid off all of the students’ remaining lunch debt! “One random act of kindness can make someone else do a random act of kindness,” he said.
